XPLOR ALGARVE: eXperiential Pedagogy, Learning Outdoors & Resilience in Education

XPLOR Algarve is an immersive training course led by Daniela Luz, designed for teachers who want to apply innovative outdoor methodologies aligned with Erasmus+ priorities.


Through a combination of field-based learning, reflection and collaboration, participants will explore how to integrate sustainability, wellbeing, inclusion and project-based learning into their teaching practice.


All activities take place within a 45-minute radius from Ferragudo, using the Algarve’s most iconic coastal landscapes as learning environments.

Learning Outcomes
Participants to the course will learn to:

Monday |  Foundations of XPLOR Methodology

  • Introduction to PIC-inspired outdoor learning framework

  • Erasmus+ priorities: Sustainability, Inclusion, Wellbeing, Innovation

  • Preparation for field experiences


Tuesday |  Field Trip 1 – Sustainability & Environmental Awareness

  • Coastal ecosystem exploration

  • Activities on climate awareness and environmental responsibility

  • Inquiry-based learning in natural settings
    Reflection: Bringing sustainability into the classroom


Wednesday | Field Trip 2 – Creativity & Cultural Connection

  • Creative exploration of landscape and identity

  • Storytelling and place-based learning

  • Visual and experiential activities
    Reflection: Creativity through environment


Thursday |  Field Trip 3 – Wellbeing, Inclusion & Outdoor Learning

  • Nature-based wellbeing practices

  • Inclusive outdoor activities adaptable to all students

  • Teamwork and collaborative challenges
    Journaling: Reflection as a pedagogical tool


Friday |  Boat Experience – Benagil Caves Exploration

  • Experiential and inquiry-based learning at sea

  • Observation and curiosity-driven tasks

  • Group reflection on impactful learning environments


Saturday |  Indoor Session – Evaluation & Certification

  • Presentation of learning outcomes

  • Reflection and sharing session

  • Implementation planning

  • Certificate delivery

Course participants will receive training and engage in exercises designed to develop their skills as trainers. The provision of additional materials or resources will be determined based on the course structure and the instructor’s approach to meeting the learning objectives​​
