AI & Inclusion — Technology for Every Learner

Inclusion is one of the highest-priority Erasmus+ objectives — and AI is rapidly becoming one of the most powerful tools available to teachers working with diverse learners. This course brings both together in depth.
Participants discover how AI tools can support students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, language barriers and other learning differences — not as a replacement for human connection, but as an amplifier of the teacher's capacity to reach every single learner in the room.
Learning Outcomes
Participants to the course will learn to:
Use AI tools to create differentiated materials accessible to every learner
Apply text-to-speech, image description and translation AI for students with SEN
Design AI-supported individual learning pathways for diverse student profiles
Address digital equity: AI access challenges and solutions across European contexts
Build an inclusive classroom AI protocol with appropriate safeguards and ethics
Lead a school inclusion and AI awareness session for colleagues and leadership

Monday
Funchal Diversity — Community, Culture & Inclusion
• Funchal Old Town: murals, history and multicultural community identity.
• Monte Palace Tropical Garden: accessibility design in a complex environment.
• Câmara de Lobos: the fishing village Winston Churchill painted — local heritage and social inclusion.
• Evening reflection: what does inclusion look like in a community? In a classroom?
Tuesday
Inclusion Frameworks & the AI Opportunity
• Erasmus+ inclusion priorities: SEN, EAL, social disadvantage and the digital divide.
• Introduction to AI tools for inclusion: an honest ecosystem overview.
• Hands-on: accessibility features in ChatGPT, Copilot, Read&Write and Immersive Reader.
• Reflection: who is currently underserved in your classroom — and how might AI help?
Wednesday
AI for Language Learners, EAL & Communication Barriers
• AI translation and language scaffolding tools: DeepL, Google Translate AI, and more.
• Bilingual and multilingual resource creation with AI.
• AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and AI tools for non-verbal learners.
• Design task: an AI-supported lesson accessible to a student new to your language.
Thursday
AI for Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism & Complex Needs
• Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and AI: building it in from the start.
• AI tools for reading support: text simplification, audio formats, visual organizers.
• Focus and attention tools: AI-powered timers, task managers and sensory break prompts.
• Ethics: data privacy, safeguarding and AI with vulnerable learners — non-negotiables.
Friday
Building Your Inclusive AI Classroom
• Workshop: designing an inclusive AI toolkit — practical resources ready to use from Monday.
• Case studies: three European teachers who transformed inclusion outcomes with AI.
• Group challenge: build an AI-supported learning plan for a student with complex needs.
• Action planning: the three most impactful changes to make on return to school.
Saturday
Certificate Ceremony & Closing
• Presentation of each participant's final project or action plan.
• Peer feedback and recognition of the week's collaborative work.
• Formal certificate ceremony in the Jardim Municipal do Funchal.
• Networking, group photo, and exchange of contacts for future Erasmus+ collaboration.
Materials, digital tools & other learning resources
Course participants will receive training and engage in exercises designed to develop their skills as trainers. The provision of additional materials or resources will be determined based on the course structure and the instructor’s approach to meeting the learning objectives
