The course explores how attention works, why students disengage, and how teachers can design learning environments that reduce distraction and increase focus.


It combines attention science, classroom strategies and simple body–mind regulation techniques to help educators create more focused, active and effective learning experiences.

Day 1 – Understanding Attention in Learning (Indoor)

  • What attention is and how it  works in education

  • Types of attention (selective, sustained, divided)

  • Why students lose focus

  • Classroom triggers for distraction


Day 2 – Field Trip: Attention, Environment & Behaviour in Action (Outdoor Learning – Madeira)

  • Observing attention patterns in real-life contexts

  • Group focus vs distraction in movement-based settings

  • Environmental impact on learning and attention

  • Reflection: linking outdoor observation to classroom practice


Day 3 – Cognitive Load & Learning Design (Indoor)

  • Managing information overload in teaching

  • Structuring lessons for better attention flow

  • Reducing unnecessary cognitive distractions

  • Designing attention-friendly learning sequences


Day 4 – Body–Mind Tools for Focus (Indoor)

  • Neuroscience applied to attention and learning

  • Breathing and grounding techniques for focus reset

  • Micro-breaks to restore attention

  • Movement-based attention recovery strategies


Day 5 – Active Learning & Engagement Strategies (Indoor)

  • Student-Centered Learning approaches for attention retention

  • Interactive methods to sustain engagement

  • Reducing passive learning and distraction

  • Structuring participation in diverse classrooms


Day 6 – Integration, Classroom Design & Certification (Indoor + Closing Practice)

  • Designing an attention-optimized lesson plan

  • Classroom routines for focus and engagement

  • Case studies and peer feedback

  • Practical simulation exercises

  • Certification ceremony
