This immersive course explores how to activate multiple intelligences through outdoor and experiential learning. Using Madeira’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage, participants will engage in hands-on activities, collaborative challenges, and reflective exercises designed to develop teamwork, social-emotional skills, and innovative teaching approaches.

Programme

Madeira Experiential Learning – Multiple Intelligences, Outdoor Education & Group Dynamics

Monday – Introduction to Experiential Learning & Multiple Intelligences (Indoor, EB 2,3 do Louro, Funchal)

  • Workshop on Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences and differentiated teaching strategies.

  • Team exercises to identify personal and collective strengths.

  • Reflection on integrating multiple intelligences into daily school practices.


Tuesday – Outdoor Learning & Cognitive Activation (Levada Walk outside Funchal)

  • Guided levada hike observing nature while engaging in problem-solving and sensory activities.

  • Outdoor exercises stimulating logical, bodily-kinesthetic, and naturalistic intelligences.

  • Reflection on using natural environments as extensions of the classroom.


Wednesday – Creativity, Expression & Group Dynamics (Eastern Madeira – Machico / Santana)

  • Workshops on storytelling, drama, and arts for developing interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences.

  • Collaborative creative projects using local culture as inspiration.

  • Reflection:  promoting empathy, communication, and social cohesion through creative learning.


Thursday – Experiential Collaboration & Emotional Skills (Northern Madeira – São Vicente / Seixal / Porto Moniz)

  • Outdoor challenges and team-building exercises in natural settings.

  • Activities to foster leadership, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and resilience.

  • Reflection on how group dynamics enhance learning and wellbeing.


Friday – Marine Observation & Experiential Reflection (Catamaran, Marina do Funchal)

  • Catamaran tour with group exercises on observation, reflection, and ecological awareness.

  • Hands-on activities linking marine ecosystems to social-emotional and cognitive learning.

  • Reflection: integrating experiential and outdoor learning in school projects.


Saturday – Synthesis, Action Planning & Certificates (Outdoor, Jardim Municipal do Funchal)

  • Presentation of mini-projects or experiential learning proposals.

  • Reflection on strategies to embed multiple intelligences, outdoor learning, and group dynamics in schools.

  • Outdoor certificate ceremony and networking.

Course participants will receive training and engage in exercises designed to develop their skills as trainers. The provision of additional materials or resources will be determined based on the course structure and the instructor’s approach to meeting the learning objectives​​
