This course empowers teachers to enhance social skills, communication, and leadership among students through experiential learning. Using Madeira’s diverse landscapes and communities as a living classroom, participants explore collaboration, group dynamics, storytelling, and positive education practices in real-life contexts.


The course combines classroom workshops, outdoor team-building experiences, and reflective sessions to equip educators with practical tools to foster leadership, teamwork, and effective communication in schools.

Learning Outcomes

Course Programme

Monday – Introduction to Collaboration, Leadership & Social Skills (Indoor, EB 2,3 do Louro, Funchal)

  • Workshop on collaboration, group dynamics, and leadership in educational settings.

  • Activities to assess communication styles and social competencies.

  • Reflection on positive education principles.


Tuesday – Team-Building & Collaboration (Levada Walk)

  • Guided easy levada hike (e.g., Levada do Rei or Levada dos Balcões).

  • Team-building exercises and collaborative challenges along the trail.

  • Focus on trust-building, social skills, and group cohesion.


Wednesday – Leadership & Storytelling (Eastern Madeira – Machico / Santana)

  • Outdoor activities emphasizing leadership, cooperation, and problem-solving.

  • Storytelling exercises using local cultural heritage as inspiration.

  • Reflection on applying experiential learning to classroom social skills development.


Thursday – Communication & Group Dynamics (Northern Madeira – São Vicente / Seixal / Porto Moniz)

  • Excursion to Porto Moniz natural pools and surrounding areas.

  • Group challenges and collaborative workshops in natural settings.

  • Activities on communication, social awareness, and emotional intelligence.


Friday – Dolphin Watching, Teamwork & Wellbeing (Catamaran, Marina do Funchal)

  • Sailing along Madeira’s coast to engage in team-based activities on board.

  • Group reflection and discussion on effective communication, leadership, and collaboration.

  • Mindfulness and positive education exercises in a unique outdoor environment.


Saturday – Reflection, Project Sharing & Certificate Ceremony (Outdoor, Jardim Municipal do Funchal)

  • Presentation of participants’ mini-projects or group exercises.

  • Reflection on implementing social skills, communication, and leadership strategies in schools.

  • Outdoor certificate ceremony and networking.

Course participants will receive training and engage in exercises designed to develop their skills as trainers. The provision of additional materials or resources will be determined based on the course structure and the instructor’s approach to meeting the learning objectives​​
