This Erasmus+ structured course encourages teachers to explore creativity, collaboration, and cultural heritage through project-based and experiential learning in Madeira’s inspiring landscapes. Participants discover how to design interdisciplinary, student-centered projects that combine teamwork, creative thinking, and real-world cultural experiences — transforming learning into meaningful engagement.

Programme

MADEIRA OUTDOOR – Creativity, Cultural Heritage, Project-Based Learning, Collaboration & Outdoor Learning

Monday – Creativity & Project-Based Learning (Indoor, Escola do Louro, Funchal)

  • Welcome session and course overview.

  • Ice-breaking and creative warm-up activities.

  • Workshop: “Designing meaningful learning projects.”

  • Group work: from ideas to collaborative project prototypes.

  • Reflection: innovation and creativity in today’s schools.


Tuesday – Cultural Heritage & Creative Expression (Field Trip, Câmara de Lobos – Fishermen’s Village and Street Art)

  • Visit to Câmara de Lobos’ fishing port and mural art.

  • Guided talk on Madeira’s cultural identity and local traditions.

  • Creative exercise: interpreting culture through art and narrative.

  • Reflection: connecting culture and creativity in education.


Wednesday – Outdoor Learning & Creativity in Nature (Field Trip, Monte and Botanical Garden, Funchal)

  • Visit to Monte Palace Tropical Garden and Botanical Garden.

  • Creative workshop inspired by shapes, colors and natural design.

  • Reflection: nature as a classroom for innovation.

  • Journaling: connecting outdoor experiences with classroom practice.


Thursday – Project-Based Learning & Cultural Heritage (Field Trip, Santana – Traditional Houses and Cultural Park)

  • Visit to Santana’s traditional thatched houses and handicraft museum.

  • Workshop: “Turning heritage into learning projects.”

  • Group collaboration: design a school project inspired by local culture.

  • Reflection: the role of heritage in shaping learning identity.


Friday – Collaboration & Teamwork Inspired by the Sea (Catamaran, Marina do Funchal)

  • Dolphin and whale watching tour along Madeira’s south coast.

  • Group reflection: lessons from nature and teamwork.

  • Activity: “The sea as a metaphor for collaboration.”

  • Journaling: how teamwork builds creativity in education.


Saturday – Sharing, Reflection & Moving Forward (Outdoor, Jardim Municipal do Funchal, Avenida Arriaga)

  • Presentation of the group projects created during the week.

  • Reflection circle and sharing of best practices.

  • Discussion: how to bring outdoor and creative learning to schools.

  • Certificates ceremony and group photo under the palm trees.

Course participants will receive training and engage in exercises designed to develop their skills as trainers. The provision of additional materials or resources will be determined based on the course structure and the instructor’s approach to meeting the learning objectives​​
