Pedagogical Innovation in the enhancement of cultural landscape and environmental heritage

his course provides participants with an overview of the trending innovative teaching methods, that is, new tools, strategies and approaches to be applied in the educational environment. Pedagogical aspects will be explored using a cross disciplinary approach on Portuguese heritage. By contacting with several aspects of Portuguese heritage, the aim is to create personal interpretations on the reading of the past and to enhance critical thinking that can be replicated in classroom context with students.

For this purpose, participants will have contact with digital tools that promote social inclusion and heritage promotion and will have outdoor activities in several locations in Northern Portugal. This is an area rich in diversified heritage, namely edified, natural and immaterial. As examples, we will see the oldest cathedral in the country, two cities where the river and the sea cross and form the routine of the population and we will approach different ways of living religiosity and different ways of dressing, with emphasis on typical costumes and student costumes.

This course aims to guide participants through the possibilities offered by the emerging trend of integrating non-formal working methods in formal education pathways, not only to increase motivation but as well to deal with challenging students and prevent early school leaving.
